Sometimes the words we say are so familiar and rote that we don't really pay attention to them anymore. When someone asks you how you are, you usually automatically answer "fine" without much thought. Sometimes even the words we say in church are kind of like that.
Elsa will lead us in taking a closer look at some of the most familiar words we regularly say together in worship, beginning in Epiphany with the Lord's Prayer. This is a two part gathering after church. At the first session on February 16th (after church), we'll take a fresh look at the Lord's Prayer and consider what it might really be saying to us. Participants will then have time to work on their own re-phrasing of the prayer in their own words before we meet again to share what this new practice has yielded for us on March 2.
The practice of putting familiar liturgical prayers and passages into your own words is a rewarding spiritual practice. Elsa will introduce it to us on Feb 16. In future seasons, we can look at other familiar words from our worship together and do the same practice.
