100 Nights Hospitality
In the winter of 2019-20, St. James hosted up to 14 guests every night when the 100 Nights shelter is full. We provided snacks, drinks and hospitality to our guests, who were with us 7 nights a week from 8pm until 7am during the cold weather months.
And last winter, we provided overflow resource center space in our former thrift shop area so that our neighbors can get out of the elements and each with more elbow room.
Many members of our parish are active in supporting and advocating for our homeless neighbors at zoning meetings and through working with city leadership.
Nourishment for our Neighbors
We have a group of willing cooks at St. James who plan a weekend meal for our neighbors at Hundred Nights Shelter once a month. After the meal is planned, each of them cook something form home or get something from the store to contribute to the meal. If you’d like to help with these delicious and nutritious meals for the folks next door, please contact Lou-Anne Beauregard.
St. James also maintains a fund specifically for sending food to Hundred Nights shelter when they do not have volunteers cooking for them. You can donate to this fund by sending a check to our office with “Nourishment for our Neighbors” in the memo line.
Getting Out There
St. James takes part, and often plans, events out in our community. You will find members of St. James worshipping in public places, taking part in local demonstrations and vigils, taking part on community boards, serving those in need and being committed and active citizens working to bring God's light into the world.
