Rest
/My heart, therefore, is glad, and my spirit rejoices; *
my body also shall rest in hope. - Psalm 16:9
This is one of my favorite psalm verses. In the version I first learned, it is said:
And so, my heart rejoices, my soul is glad;
even my flesh shall rest in hope.
And another version of it I like puts it this way:
Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices;
my body also rests secure.
To me, this psalm speaks of faith as something not just of the mind - nor even just of the mind and emotions. Faith is important to us in mind, spirit and body. And when we have faith, it is a consolation to our minds, peace for our emotions and rest for our bodies. God, you show me the path of life. With you there is fullness of joy. It is only in you that I can rest my whole, true self - body, mind and spirit.
In these fractious and tense times, it is a relief to have a place to let down and just rest. As people of faith, no matter where we are or what is going on, God is that place.
